An Amazon S3 File Gateway provides a file interface to Amazon S3, allowing existing applications to store files in S3 using standard file protocols (NFS or SMB). By updating the business system to use the S3 File Gateway's network share, files written to this share are automatically and asynchronously uploaded to S3 in near real-time, meeting the requirements with minimal administrative overhead. Using AWS DataSync with a daily scheduled task would not provide near real-time transfer. While DataSync with an API could be near real-time, it requires developing and maintaining an application, increasing administrative overhead. Deploying an AWS Transfer for SFTP endpoint and a custom script also adds administrative overhead for development and maintenance compared to the fully managed S3 File Gateway.
