A company has an AWS Direct Connect connection from its corporate data center to a VPC in us-east-1. The company acquired another organization that has VPCs and a Direct Connect connection to eu-west-2. The VPC CIDR ranges do not overlap. The company needs scalable connectivity among both Regions and both data centers while minimizing operational overhead. What should a solutions architect do?

Connecting the existing Direct Connect connection to a Direct Connect gateway is the most scalable and operationally efficient solution. A Direct Connect gateway allows you to connect your Direct Connect connection to multiple VPCs across different AWS Regions, provided the VPCs are associated with a Virtual Private Gateway (VGW). This enables inter-Region connectivity between your on-premises networks and VPCs without needing separate Direct Connect connections for each Region or complex routing. Inter-Region VPC peering is incorrect because it connects VPCs directly, but doesn't inherently provide connectivity to the on-premises data centers via Direct Connect without additional routing configurations, which increases complexity. Creating private virtual interfaces from us-east-1 to eu-west-2 is incorrect because private VIFs are tied to a single VPC in a single Region, and you cannot create a private VIF in one Region to connect to a VPC in another Region. Establishing VPN appliances in a fully meshed network is incorrect because it introduces significant operational overhead for managing EC2 instances and VPN software, which contradicts the requirement to minimize operational overhead.
