A company needs to connect several VPCs in the us-east-1 Region that span hundreds of AWS accounts. The company's networking team has its own AWS account to manage the cloud network. What is the MOST operationally efficient solution to connect the VPCs?

The most operationally efficient solution is to create an AWS Transit Gateway in the networking team's AWS account and configure static routes from each VPC. Transit Gateway acts as a central hub, simplifying network architecture and management for connecting many VPCs across multiple accounts. This avoids the complexity of managing numerous individual connections. VPC peering connections are suitable for a small number of VPCs but become unmanageable and complex at scale (hundreds of VPCs) due to the need for a full mesh of connections and updating many route tables. Configuring NAT gateways and internet gateways in each VPC to connect through the internet is insecure, inefficient, and not designed for private VPC-to-VPC connectivity. Deploying VPN gateways in each VPC and creating a transit VPC is an older pattern that Transit Gateway has largely superseded, offering less operational overhead and better scalability.
