A company’s new mobile app lets users worldwide view local news and post photos and videos. Content is accessed frequently within minutes of posting, then rapidly replaced and removed. S3 Transfer Acceleration utilizes Amazon CloudFront’s globally distributed edge locations to accelerate uploads to S3 buckets, significantly reducing latency for users worldwide. This is ideal for a mobile app with users globally uploading content. The data is transferred over an optimized network path to the nearest edge location, then routed to the S3 bucket. Using CloudFront for uploads directly is not its primary function; CloudFront is optimized for content delivery (downloads), not uploads. Uploading to EC2 instances adds an unnecessary intermediary step and complexity, increasing latency and cost. While storing content in S3 in the closest region is good practice, using multiple CloudFront distributions for uploads doesn't leverage CloudFront's upload acceleration capabilities as effectively as S3 Transfer Acceleration.
