Routing preference allows you to choose how traffic is routed to your Azure resources. By selecting "Microsoft network routing," inbound traffic enters the Microsoft global network at the point-of-presence (POP) closest to the user and then travels over Microsoft's optimized backbone to your storage account. This minimizes latency for users worldwide. Private endpoints provide secure access to Azure services over a private network, not for optimizing global routing. Azure Firewall rules control network access based on defined policies, but don't dictate global traffic ingress points. Load balancing distributes traffic across multiple backend resources within a region or across regions, but doesn't specifically ensure traffic enters the nearest Microsoft POP for global optimization.
