To move an AWS account between organizations, it must first be removed from its current organization. The RemoveAccountFromOrganization API call, executed from the old organization's management account, efficiently detaches the member accounts. Once detached, the new organization's management account can invite these accounts using InviteAccountToOrganization. Finally, each invited account must explicitly accept the invitation to join the new organization. The MoveAccount operation is used to move an account within the same organization, not between different organizations. Calling RemoveAccountFromOrganization from each developer member account is incorrect because only the management account can remove member accounts. Creating a placeholder account is not a necessary step for migrating existing accounts.
