By default, a Cisco switch retains a MAC address entry in its MAC address table (CAM table) for 300 seconds (5 minutes) after the workstation associated with that MAC address stops sending traffic. This is known as the MAC address aging time. If the workstation sends traffic again within this 300-second window, the timer resets. If no traffic is sent for 300 seconds, the entry is removed to free up space and ensure the table remains current. Options like 200, 600, or 900 seconds are incorrect default values, though the aging time can be manually configured to these or other values.
