In an agile environment, the team is self-organizing and cross-functional. When a key member is unavailable, the most effective approach is to collaborate with the team to determine how to reallocate tasks, adjust the sprint backlog, or modify the iteration goals. This leverages the team's collective knowledge and promotes ownership of the solution. Allowing senior management to decide bypasses the team's autonomy and expertise. Contacting procurement for a temporary replacement is often too slow and disruptive for a short-term absence. Persuading the team member to stay is inappropriate and disregards their personal emergency.
