Multiple teams share a single namespace in a large GKE cluster. You need to onboard more teams, isolate environments, maintain security and performance, and minimize cost. What should you do?

Creating a new namespace for each team in the existing cluster, coupled with resource quotas, is the most effective solution. Namespaces provide logical isolation for resources within a single cluster, allowing teams to manage their deployments independently without interfering with others. Resource quotas enforce limits on CPU, memory, and other resources per namespace, preventing any single team from monopolizing cluster resources and ensuring performance stability. This approach minimizes cost by leveraging the existing cluster infrastructure and avoids the operational overhead and increased cost associated with managing multiple GKE clusters. Creating new RBAC for each team in a shared namespace would not provide sufficient isolation. Creating a new namespace for each environment is less granular than per-team, and doesn't fully address the need for team isolation. Creating a new GKE cluster for each team is overly complex and expensive.
