Setting the load balancer's session persistence to Client IP does not satisfy the requirement for an Always On Availability Group (AG) listener. An AG listener requires direct communication with the primary replica, and client IP affinity can interfere with failover. If a failover occurs, the client's connection might still be directed to the old primary replica (which is now a secondary) due to the sticky session, preventing the connection from reaching the new primary. For AG listeners, the load balancer should typically use Direct Server Return (DSR) or a similar method that allows the listener IP to float between replicas without session persistence issues.
