The correct approach involves preprocessing and compressing data in each region before centralizing it. This minimizes data transfer costs, as raw data is often large and expensive to move across regions. Using a regional bucket for the final consolidated data is cost-effective because the final Dataproc cluster can be launched in the same region as the bucket, avoiding cross-region data transfer costs for the final processing. Moving all data into one zone or region without preprocessing would incur high data transfer costs for the raw, uncompressed data. While a multi-region bucket offers high availability, it doesn't inherently reduce data transfer costs for the initial consolidation compared to a regional bucket when the processing cluster is co-located.
