The sponsor supports using agile approaches. The project manager is planning how to roll out agile and gain buy-in from the team and stakeholders. What should the project manager do first?

Starting with a pilot project of appropriate complexity and providing agile training to those affected is the most practical and effective first step. This allows the organization to gain experience with agile approaches on a manageable scale, demonstrate success, and learn valuable lessons before broader adoption. It minimizes risk and builds confidence. Deciding on agile software tools prematurely is less critical than demonstrating the value of agile itself; tools support the process but don't define it. Selecting a current predictive project and converting it mid-stream can be disruptive and may not be the best way to introduce agile, as the project might not be ideally suited for an agile approach from its inception. Planning an organization-wide transformation immediately is too ambitious and risky as a first step without prior experience or demonstrated success with agile within the organization.
