What advantage do YANG modules provide?

YANG (Yet Another Next Generation) modules define a standardized, data modeling language used to configure and manage network devices. This standardization, especially through common or industry-defined models, significantly improves multivendor interoperability. Instead of each vendor using proprietary methods, YANG allows different vendors to understand and interact with each other's devices using a common language and data structure. Tightly coupled models with encoding don't inherently improve performance; YANG focuses on data definition. YANG modules are designed to be extensible and can be changed, preventing ecosystem fragmentation rather than being fixed. YANG is protocol-agnostic and can be used with various protocols (like NETCONF or RESTCONF), so it doesn't enforce single protocol coupling.
