An endpoint is a device that an end-user directly interacts with to access network services. Examples include computers, smartphones, tablets, and IoT devices. These devices originate and terminate network communication for applications and user activities. Transmitting broadcast traffic between devices in the same VLAN is also a function of a switch. Providing security between trusted and untrusted network sections is the primary role of a firewall.
