What is a similarity between OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber?

OM3 and OM4 are types of multimode fiber (MMF) designed for higher bandwidth applications, particularly in data centers. A key characteristic they share is a 50-micron core diameter. This smaller core, compared to older MMF types like OM1 and OM2 (which typically have 62.5-micron cores), allows for higher bandwidth and longer transmission distances, especially when used with VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) transceivers. A 100-micron core diameter is less common and not standard for OM3/OM4. A 9-micron core diameter is characteristic of single-mode fiber (SMF), not multimode fiber.
