What’s the ideal number of people to be included within the “Accountable” section of a DARCI?

The DARCI (Delegated, Accountable, Responsible, Consulted, Informed) framework is designed to clarify roles and responsibilities. For the "Accountable" role, it is critical to have only one individual. This ensures clear ownership and avoids diffusion of responsibility, meaning there is no ambiguity about who is ultimately answerable for the outcome of a task or decision. Having multiple accountable individuals can lead to confusion, duplicated effort, or the assumption that someone else will handle the task, ultimately hindering progress and accountability. While other roles in DARCI (like Responsible, Consulted, Informed) can involve multiple people, accountability must be singular to be effective.
