Which advantage does cloud infrastructure provide that on-premises typically lacks?

Elastic, on-demand scalability is a key advantage of cloud infrastructure. Cloud platforms allow resources (compute, storage, network) to be rapidly provisioned and de-provisioned as needed, scaling up or down automatically based on demand. This flexibility is difficult and expensive to achieve with on-premises infrastructure, which requires significant upfront investment in hardware and a longer lead time for expansion. While on-premises systems can use virtualization, it doesn't offer the same level of rapid, automated elasticity as cloud. Vendor-supported systems and storage capacity are available in both cloud and on-premises environments, so they are not distinguishing advantages of cloud.
