Which type of credential provides a user with programmatic access to AWS through the AWS CLI or AWS APIs?

Access keys, consisting of an access key ID and a secret access key, are used to make programmatic calls to AWS from the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) or AWS APIs. They authenticate users or applications that need to interact with AWS services outside of the management console. Amazon Inspector is a security assessment service, not a credential. SSH public keys are used for secure shell access to EC2 instances, not for general programmatic AWS access.
