Why is a Type 1 hypervisor considered more efficient than a Type 2 hypervisor?

A Type 1 hypervisor, also known as a bare-metal hypervisor, is more efficient because it runs directly on the host machine's hardware. This direct access eliminates the overhead associated with an underlying operating system, leading to better performance and resource utilization for virtual machines. In contrast, a Type 2 hypervisor runs as an application on top of a host operating system, introducing an additional layer of abstraction and potential latency. While Type 1 hypervisors do support hardware acceleration, it's not the sole reason for their efficiency advantage over Type 2. Type 1 hypervisors do not rely on an existing OS for resource access; they manage resources directly. Both Type 1 and Type 2 hypervisors enable other operating systems to run on them, so this is not a distinguishing factor for efficiency.
