Creating an organization CloudTrail trail and querying the data with Athena is the most operationally efficient method. CloudTrail captures all API activity across your organization, and Athena allows you to run powerful SQL queries directly on this data to identify top users and roles based on activity. Partition projection in Athena optimizes query performance and reduces costs. Contributor Insights is designed for analyzing high-cardinality data to find top contributors, but setting up and maintaining rules across all relevant fields for user/role identification can be more complex than direct Athena queries. IAM Access Analyzer focuses on unused access, not identifying the most active users/roles. Service access reports show when a service was last accessed, not the top users or roles within that service, and generating them for every account is not operationally efficient for this specific task.
