Your customer has a newer version of one of their private apps, and they would like to test the updated version with a small group of users (<100) before a full rollout. What is the best way for them to test the newer version of the application?

Creating an internal or closed test track in the Google Play Console is the best method. This allows developers to distribute pre-release versions of an app to a select group of testers without affecting the production version. Testers receive updates through the Play Store, mimicking the real user experience, and their feedback can be gathered efficiently. Uploading with two different application IDs is impractical and creates management overhead, as it essentially treats the test version as a separate app. Temporarily changing device restrictions to allow sideloading is insecure, bypasses managed app distribution, and doesn't scale well for even small test groups. While EMMs with iFrame integration facilitate app management, they don't inherently provide a robust, built-in mechanism for pre-release testing and version targeting to specific devices in the way Play Console test tracks do.
